The birth of a baby is an exciting and momentous occasion that is filled with wonder and awe. When you are pregnant for the first time, it can be a scary time though because you do not know what to expect. There are some women who must have their labor induced. This happens because they are not going into labor fast enough; it also happens because of medical issues that require the baby to be born a bit earlier than expected.. If you are going to be induced for your first birth in the near future, use the following guide to learn a few things to expect so that the process is a little less stressful for you.
Arrive on Time
Your induction will be scheduled. You need to be sure that you arrive at the exact time on the exact day the doctor scheduled your appointment. Many doctors have numerous patients that they must see on a daily basis. He or she may have two or three other expectant mothers to induce and you arriving late could cause a train reaction of other mothers having to wait to be induced.
Start Labor
Labor will be started for you manually. The doctor will break your water with a special tool that is designed for this purpose. Having your water broken does not hurt in any way. Next, the doctor will insert a medicine into your IV that will cause your body to start contracting. Eventually, the medicine will cause your cervix to become dilated and you will be ready to give birth.
Be Patient
The medicine causes your body to go into labor sooner than it would on its own, but it still takes time. You may not have your baby for quite a few hours so be sure that you plan accordingly. When packing the bag that you want to bring to the hospital the night before you are induced, be sure to pack things for you to do while you are waiting to deliver. Crossword puzzles and word searches are often great items to bring with you.
Eventually, your body will be ready to give birth. You will give birth the same way you would if you had not been induced. You will be able to enjoy time with your little one after they come out of the womb. Being induced is a safe way to ensure that your baby is born exactly when he or she needs to be born, even if your body does not know it.
