Did Your Spouse Or Parent Hurt Their Back? Bathroom Changes To Make

If your spouse or a parent has suffered a back injury and you are nervous as they try to take care of their hygiene in the bathroom, there are some changes you may want to consider making. There are a lot of things that you can do to make the bathroom a safer space for them, and things that you can do so they don't have to strain their back as they get ready. Consider these things.

Walk-in Tub

A walk-in tub is ideal because they can get into the tub, close the door, and then fill the tub up on their own while they are in it. They can sit and relax their muscles as if they were sitting in a hot tub, and you don't have to worry about them slipping and falling while trying to stand up in a shower. No more shower chairs or handrails; instead they can sit and wait for the water to all drain before wrapping up and stepping out of the tub with ease.  A plumber can help make adjustments necessary for the proper installation of this tub.

High Cabinets and Countertops

The cabinet height needs to be higher than the standard cabinet, so that they don't have to strain their back or bend down far too brush their teeth, wash their hands, or use the sink for any other reasons. You can get high cabinets so the countertop height is above standard, and there are even some vanities that are already built this way.

Floor-to-Ceiling Storage

You can get storage compartments that are at the chest level and above, so they don't have to bend down to get specific things that they need, like washcloths or personal hygiene products. If you worry they are going to fall over to get a new roll of toilet paper or something else, you want to get storage options that prevent them from bending.

The easier it is for your parent or spouse to get around, the less you have to wonder and worry about what they are doing when you aren't around to give them help and when they have to use different things in the bathroom. Make these changes to their bathroom space so you can get results. There are a lot of ways that you can change the space without having to remodel the bathroom entirely, and in a short amount of time.
